Medical students
As a training practice we have links with Manchester University and often have 3rd/4th year medical students
training in the practice. If you are unhappy seeing your GP with a medical student present, please inform the
reception staff or your GP and the medical student will be asked to leave the room.
The Health Care Team
Practice Manager - Keith Fraser
Mr Fraser has the responsibility of managing both staff and finances on behalf of the doctors and
ensuring that the practice is run in an efficient and friendly manner. He is available to listen to you if
you have any comments or complaints about the service we provide and welcomes any suggestions you may have
on how to improve the service.
Practice Administrator - Mrs Mary Richards
Mrs Richards takes care of the day-to-day running of this busy GP surgery and will
be only too happy to answer any administrative questions you have.
Practice Pharmacist
Our practice pharmacist is available to answer any questions you have about your medicines or repeat
prescriptions. She also manages the repeat prescription process and helps the GPs review prescribed
medication to ensure it is effective and appropriately monitored.
Practice Nurses
Practice nurses are available by appointment Monday to Friday. They are responsible for promoting and
maintaining good health. They can advise on travel immunisations, diet, smoking cessation, alcohol control
and carry out general health checks and smears. They also run asthma, COPD and well woman clinics (for
patients on contraception), HRT, general health checks, smears and ear syringing. They also monitor
hypertension (high blood pressure) and lipids (cholesterol).
Health Care Assistant
Our health care assistant is trained to carry out new patient health checks, over 75 health checks, to
assist GPs in their minor surgery clinics and to perform basic checks to assist the practice nurses. She
also monitors patients who have been diagnosed and are on treatment for high blood
pressure (hypertension).
She also gives advice on smoking cessation. She is not, however, a fully trained nurse and therefore
cannot give clinical advice.
District Nurses
District nurses provide nursing treatment to the housebound and patients recently discharged from hospital. They also run sessions at Cornhill Road Clinic on Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays between 2.00pm and 4.00pm (except bank holidays). they can help with minor injuries, dressings, injections, removal of stitches and ear syringing. These sessions are by appointment only and can be booked by ringing 748 2820.
Health Visitors
Health visitors visit all families with children under five years of age. They provide information,
health promotion, advice and support to all age groups.

Community Midwives
Community midwives work with the doctors to provide care for mothers before and after delivery and care
of the baby for the first fortnight of life.

The Macmillan Nurse
The Macmillan nurse visits and cares for cancer patients in their homes and gives advice and support to
their families.
